Getting StartedDesign TipsWhere to BeginAdding ContentOk, Now What?

This is where your audience is the main thing to think about. Find information about your audience so they will find your site more appealing and so that the site is aimed at them to enjoy. I'm sure an adult wouldn't enjoy a site that has bright fluorescent colours and childish pictures. Well, It'd be okay if your site was actually aimed at adults who enjoy bright colours and childish pictures but you get what I mean... You want to make sure your viewers enjoy your site as much as possible.

Who it Applies To - RETURN TO TOP
To find out who your site applies to, there are a few way. In some cases, like mine, it's obvious. My site is specifically aimed at secondary school students wishing to learn how to produce websites. I will know to make sure to create it as informatively appealing to them as possible. In other cases, you may be making a site for a specific group of people, for example, if you are making a site for your mates, Luke, Oliver and Thomas, and you want to teach them how to play soccer after they have played rugby all their life, you could tell them details unique to them about their situation, talk about their specific abilities that can help and refer to them often so they feel more involved in the website.

What Age Group is Your Site Aimed At - RETURN TO TOP
You will find out the many reasons why it is good to know the age group of your viewers in Design Tips. If you want to know what age group you are aiming at you may already know this from the information you're giving. For example, if your site is about child birth, your site is probably aimed at adults and mothers. This means you should design your site to suit the attitude and wants of the adult age group, which you can find out about in Design Tips later on.

How to Keep Your Viewer's Attention - RETURN TO TOP
Getting your viewers to come to your site is a great success but keeping them there is an even greater one. The best way to do this is to include information that interests them enough to keep reading. There is nothing worse than wanting to read something that is long and boring so it's a better idea to keep short but informative sentenced rather than 50 that serve the same purpose.
A way of making it easier to include more information while still keeping their attention is by breaking up the information into paragraphs. Having more space between the writing makes it seem like the specific paragraph you are reading is short and since there are line breaks you can read through it easier. This page is a good example, as it cut the information up into small groups which makes it easier to navigate through and read.
Another way is to add horizontal rules. These are a line that spreads across the page, or as far across as you want, which also space it and separate information, while making it look nice at the same time, if done effectively. Another good way is to add pictures, which act as a break from reading all the text. But obviously, make sure the pictures are relevant to the topic.

How You Can Make the Viewers Return - RETURN TO TOP
This is important if you want people to remember your site. There are a few ways to do this. You could have information that is updated so people can return to see what is happening. If you add new information frequently, your viewers may return to see what is new. You could also contain well written content so your viewers will choose your site over others because reading your site is more enjoyable. You could offer free stuff, for example, if you are making a site about magic, you could offer step-by-step instructions on how to do it. This would draw them back to continue learning. Or you could combine the three and have frequently updated magic tutorials that are well written and described. This would make a site that would interest the viewers a lot.
